CAR GETS EARLY BATH An unlucky car owner watched in horror as his car slowly rolled into the River Yare this Tuesday afternoon
The Ford Focus had been parked on the quay when somehow the brake released and the car, fortunately without any occupants, headed towards a watery grave
The car was slowly carried by the tidal currents until it stuck on the mud banks near the Harbours Mouth, where the local inshore lifeboat, police, ambulance and divers brought the car ashore

MORE POST OFFICES TO CLOSE In line with the intended closure of a number of post offices in Great Yarmouth two offices in Gorleston have also come under threat
The branches at North Gorleston and the Shrublands now face the axe, and local residents and the Norfolk County Council are furious at the Post Office's decisions, which will affect thousands of local people
BEEP, BEEP RODNEY! In what could have been a scene from Only Fools and Horses, a speeding Robin Reliant brought chaos to the Town Centre as Jimi-Lee Stewart tried to evade the police who were chasing him
The youngster, who had taken his mother's Robin without her consent, was seen speeding by a patrol car who tried to stop him, but were led a merry dance as Stewart sped off through the town, running red lights and trying to gun the 850cc three-wheeler away from the police who followed behind in "luke-warm" pursuit!
At his trial the judge at Norwich Crown Court, Peter Jacobs, deferred sentencing for six months to give Stewart a final chance to reform
BLUE CAT GETS THE CREAM Frances Longman of the Blue Cat Initiative is to receive a top award for her Media in the Community outreach project which involves offering training in multi-media and awarding accredited qualifications to those taking part
The prize for the "outstanding community learning project" will be presented by the Mayor of Norwich and actor Colin Baker
Blue Cat is one of the members of the proposed Gorleston Community Activity Park project - The CAP
SMOKE ME A KIPPER The new Time and Tide Museum opens soon at the old Tower Curing Works in Blackfriars Road soon, and museum staff have been busy finishing off the displays - one which will feature an original smoke room filled with 12,000 herring - (plastic not real!)
The museum, the third largest of its kind in Norfolk, is scheduled to open in mid-July has cost around £4.5 million to build
LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION After being suggested in 1999 by Stephen Barron of the Seafront Partnership, Great Yarmouth is to host its very own four-day film festival running from September 30 to October 3
FLY GARRICKS BIG IN THE UNDERWORLD Local band The Fly Garricks perform tonight (Weds 12th) at the prestigious Camden Town club - The Underworld
Based in Lowestoft, the Fly Garricks, who have been described by music critics and radio stations as the "next big thing!" support Four Day Hombre and Bowfinger
The Underworld has played host to concerts by such big name artists as The Cranberries, Crazytown, The Datsuns, Everlast, Frank Black, Hole, James, Kristin Hersh, Placebo, Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead, Sheryl Crow, Silverchair, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Stereo MC's, Suede, The Von Bondies and many of today's headline bands

GREEN SPACE UNDER THREAT Plans by the government to build up to 6,000 new houses in the area have forced the local council to issue a "Full Up" warning to John Prescott's office!
It is feared that not only will services in the town be overwhelmed, but rural areas will be unable to cope with the new numbers of people needing to access schools, dentists and doctors
Land that should have been used for community facilities has already been taken to build houses in Gorleston, and it is feared that swathes of greenfield land will be turned into housing sites
CAR PARK FEES BEGIN The carparking machines on the seafront come into force today Saturday May 1 and will operate until October 31. The prices are £2.50 for four hours and £4.00 for over four hours
POP BEACH TICKETS Tickets for this summer's Pop Beach will go on sale Friday 7 May and are priced at £12.50 each.
Tickets can be bought by contacting the Great Yarmouth tourist office 01493 842195, or at Ticketmaster 0871 2302644. Tickets may also be available through Channel 4's website
Pop Beach is being held on Sunday June 6 and will feature acts such as Ash, Big Brovas, Blazin Squad, Blue, Emma Bunton, Goldfrapp, Jamelia, Javine, Lemar, McFly, Shaznay Lewis, Speedway and Supergrass, with more acts yet to be announced
