EMPIRE OF THE ZEN
A brand new nightclub opens up on GY's seafront this Saturday, 24 July, at the old Empire cinema site

The new venue called Zen has been transformed by Peter Jay into an up-market eastern-themed nightspot with five bars and an upstairs VIP's-only section

The club which has cost an estimated £100k to revamp will open every day until 2am, apart from Sundays when it will close at 12.30am

No under-21s will be admitted, and admission to the VIP area is by invitation only

WINDFARM SWITCH ON
Powergen yesterday (Tuesday 20 July) switched on the first two turbines at the Scroby Sands offshore windfarm. The rest of the 28 turbines will come onstream next month in August, supplying electricity to about 40,000 homes

Jason Scagell, head of E.ON UK Renewables, the company that runs Powergen, said:

"I hope that local people and tourists will have the chance to have a look at the windfarm as we gradually bring all 30 turbines on line over the next few weeks"

The switch-on also coincided with the official opening of Scroby Sands Wind Farm Information Centre, which is located opposite the Bowls Greens, to the north of Britannia Pier

TIME ARRIVES FOR NEW MUSEUM
The Time and Tide Museum of maritime history opened its doors today at the old Tower Curing Works on Blackfriars Road

The museum which one of the biggest maritime museums of its kind in the country has cost over £4.5 million to build, and will house all of the town's maritime collection, shops, interactive displays, a re-created Row and a fishwharf

A major focal point will be a courtyard covered with a 70-foot fabric canopy to represent a ship's sail made by the same firm that manufactured the canopy for London's Millennium Dome

The museum is a partnership venture between Great Yarmouth Preservation Trust and the Norfolk Museums and Archaeology Service, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund

CIRCUS STARTS WITH A SPLASH
Yarmouth's Hippodrome Circus kicks off its summer season with a dazzling special array of circus superstars and comedy heroes from 14th July to Sunday 12th September

The unique water spectacle, one of only three still surviving in the world, Britain's last total circus building, 101 years old this year, will host a fast moving spectacular, thrill packed show, with many new artistes appearing in Britain for the first time ever

Dazzling special EFX, lighting and music will compliment the Dancers, Swimmers and international circus artistes and comedy stars in this special anniversary edition of the non-animal extravaganza

Peter Jay whom is celebrating 25 years as producer and owner, said:

"I'm absolutely delighted with this years line up which includes acts that I have been trying to get for years, plus a very strong comedy element from Clive and Danny, the UK's funniest and most hilarious clowns, a real find! All presented in the world's most atmospheric and unique circus arena."

FRENCH FUN AT THEME PARK
Pleasurewood Hills the themepark based at Hopton outside of GY has been bought by Grévin & Cie a French theme park operator

Olivier de Bosredon, chair at Grévin & Cie, said: “Pleasurewood Hills’ personality, charm and local roots correspond well with our strategy. Regional parks are a key asset towards our goal of becoming a European leader in family entertainment”

Founded in 1983, the 50-acre Pleasurewood Hills attracted 250,000 visitors last year and had a turnover of 4.5m euros. Its rides include The Frisbee – introduced last year – and The Tidal Wave.

Grévin & Cies attracts around five million people to its 13 visitor attractions around Europe, which include the Parc Asterix in France, the Aquaparc in Switzerland and the Dolfinarium Hardewijk in the Netherlands, and this will be its first British site

Theme park planning consultants, RPS, assisted Grévin & Clie in sourcing the undisclosed deal

VIRGIN AXE FALLS ON TRAVEL JOBS
Over 180 staff at Virgin Travelstore in Gorleston were told of the shock decision to axe their jobs only this week as Virgin get out of the holiday booking business

Money that was due to be invested in Travelstore is now being invested in Virgin Atlantic
